Terms of Service

By accessing or using Dormbound at dormbound.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

Dormbound is a college application management platform that provides tools for school research, application tracking, essay writing assistance, financial aid tracking, scholarship discovery, interview preparation, and related features. Some features require a paid Pro or Pro Family subscription.

• You must provide accurate, current information when creating an account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• You must notify us immediately at support@dormbound.com if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.

Dormbound offers a free tier with limited features and paid Pro and Pro Family subscription tiers with expanded access to AI-powered tools, enhanced limits, and additional features described on the pricing page.

Free tier features may change at any time with reasonable notice. We will provide at least 14 days' notice before removing a free feature that was previously available.

• Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through Stripe. All prices are in USD.
• You authorize us to charge your payment method on each billing cycle. Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law.
• You may cancel your subscription at any time from account settings. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period.
• We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with 30 days' advance notice. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance of new pricing.
• Pro Family plans allow a primary account holder and linked parent or guardian accounts to access the Service under a single subscription, subject to usage limits.

Certain features use large language models (currently Anthropic's Claude) to generate suggestions, feedback, and content. You acknowledge that:

• AI-generated content may contain errors or inaccuracies.
• You are responsible for reviewing all AI-generated content before submitting it as part of any application, essay, or official document.
• AI suggestions are tools to assist your writing — not finished work product. Final submissions should reflect your own voice and be factually accurate.
• Content you submit to AI features is processed by Anthropic subject to their usage policies. We do not use your content to train models.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
• Submit false or misleading information, including in college applications
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts or our systems
• Reverse engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service
• Resell or redistribute access to the Service without our written permission
• Use AI-generated essay content to misrepresent work as solely your own in contexts that prohibit AI assistance — you are responsible for compliance with your school's and college's academic integrity policies

You retain ownership of the content you create in Dormbound (essays, notes, school lists, etc.). By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, display, and process your content solely to operate and improve the Service.

You are responsible for ensuring your content does not infringe third-party intellectual property rights or violate any applicable law.

The Dormbound name, logo, design, software, and all related intellectual property are owned by us. Nothing in these Terms grants you a right to use our brand assets or intellectual property except to use the Service as permitted here.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

We make no guarantees about college admission outcomes. Dormbound is an organizational and assistance tool; admission decisions rest entirely with colleges and universities.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DORMBOUND AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) $100 USD.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dormbound and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct we determine is harmful to the Service or other users, with or without prior notice depending on severity.

You may close your account at any time from settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. Sections 8–12 and 14 survive termination.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

We encourage you to contact us first at support@dormbound.com — most issues can be resolved quickly without formal proceedings.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
